If we are going to send out invitations, I think it would be nice if we had a standard invitation, describing Nytram's, with perhaps a bit of history, why we are looking for new members, and maybe even why that person was selected for invitation. I nominate Kitty to come up with something clever, entertaining and enticing :)

Is it too soon to send out invitations? I have about ten people in mind from another community who might fit in nicely. They range from age 40 to I think 79, and maybe a few from countries outside the US. I don't know much else about them, but they don't strike me as being trollish.

You can do that now. We have always been accepting registrations, it's just closed to reading by non-members right now.

I liked Dee's idea of a standard invitation.

How about a page with the invitation that we can send a link to? The page would serve as a sort of entry way to Nytram's.

Excellent idea. We should take advantage of the talented folk we have here and make creating the invite a community effort.

All it needs is the invitation, the terms, and a link. I could probably manage that if someone... Kitty?... Is willing to draft the invitation.

Thanks for thinking of me (twice), but I must decline because I'm not wild about recruiting new members for the very same reasons Diana said she'd like to.

We veterans of NP have been acquainted for years, we have a pretty good idea of how each of us thinks and will react--and we've become able to disagree pretty courteously since the rabble-rousing riff-raff were ejected.  I feel comfortable here, I don't mind if it's slow sometimes (I spend a couple hours a night reporting the latest goings-on in Categonia, VA, a small city where cats and dogs run everything and humans provide useful services, so I'm never bored).

As for our needing differing opinions here--we've been there, we've done that (I'm speaking of politicial opinions).  Let's admit it, most of our members are of a more liberal persuasion than a conservative one, and conservative opinions, no matter how reasonably presented, are promptly trounced.  That may be due to memories of problem children such as Tall Rep and Turks presenting them so unreasonably.

WonderWoman gave me faux mink throw for Christmas last year--it's incredibly comfortable and makes me happy.  NytramsPlace does the same. aww

I quite understand Kitty. Heck, I even unsnap my jeans while posting here, and I'm not certain what newbies would make of Stoney

What would concern me equally, if not more, is what Stoney would make of the newbies.

A community needs occasional new blood or it will wither and die...do a search on the Shakers.

Or visit Cleveland and/or Detroit.

We used to have a couple of hundred members...now we're down to about 66...and maybe a third of those are active and post regularly.

Yeah, it's safe here now in Liberal, Kansas...but it's also like watching paint dry sometimes. Not saying we want or need rioting in the streets, as in days of yore...but a few new forty-fifty-sixtysomething lefty kitty-lovers wouldn't upset the donkey cart (pun intended), either.

Or I can just go back to watching Mad Men, as I now own all five seasons. No skin off my ass, either way.

No more time to argue. Gotta get up early. My neighbor's daughter's funeral is tomorrow morning.

-73- and good night.

Charlie

I like Dee's idea, too, insofar as inviting people we know to join, I enjoy meeting new people (who don't have an agenda, she muttered to herself).  Thing is, among the many off-board friends I have, I don't think there's a one who would understand what a message board community is all about, so I probably won't contribute much of anything toward adding new members.

On the other hand, I always have my imaginary friends!

And you always will, Kitty!

Oh, hi, MaryAnne, how are you and Cybill, it's been awhile.

We've been keeping track of that General Petraeus mess, for one thing.

No chance of you or Maryanne being called into it, Cybill?

I doubt it, Kitty--he stayed at our place only the one night on his way to Afghanistan.

He and that Broadside biographer, let's be honest, Cybill.

Well, OK, MaryAnne, she was here, too.

So what else have you two been up to?

We're pleased to see a few more states have approved gay marriage, not that it applies to us, but everybody should be treated fairly.

Exactly, Cybill!  Either allow same-gender couples the same benefits as opposite-gender couples, or do away with all the benefits opposite-gender couples are allowed.

That's right, MaryAnne!  And you know what else?

What, Cybill?

Unmarried people!

What about them?

They should get the same tax breaks married people do, MaryAnne.

I'm all for that!  Our apologies, Kitty, we tend to get wound up about issues lately.  Cybill, ask Pueblo or Pancho to please fix us a pitcher of margaritas.

How come they get a "please" and I don't?

Probably because this is my house and my cabana boys, but I apologize.  Cybill, please ask them to see to the drinks.

Don't I get a thank you?

Don't push it, Cybill.

Well, you seem to have found us without an invitation, and only a few weeks ago we had Tucker, who made about 6 posts, and some other newcomer who apparently deleted his account after a couple days, so it's not as if this board is as private as we might like to think.

By the way, how did you find us?

I tend to like the community the way it is--I don't have to wear any armor any more--although I wish some veteran members would start showing up again.  But puhleeeeze, the last place to issue an invitation would be at IMDb.

Googled messageboards, came across this & didn't know what a Nytram was.Curiosity.

Wow, how fortuitous LFL... I just googled message boards, and I went through 15 pages and didn't see nytrams place. You must have dug really deep to find such a small board.

On second thoughts, maybe the cons do outweigh the pro's. Think I'll cast off till you guys decide one way or another. Don't need the paranoia directed at me. hmm
