I'm really very sorry you feel that way. I've known you a long time, you are like family to me, but there's really nothing wrong with a bit of heated debate now and again.

hmm

Thank you Nytram for your kind words. You are right their is nothing wrong with a good debate heated or otherwise. I just was finding this topic was coming up so often. I have always respected you and everyone here even with our differences all is good.

"Is that really true, God?"

"Well, yes, pretty much, Cybill.  I mean, must I be expected to tend to damned near everything, especially humans' interpretations of my benevolence?  By the way, this is a very fine margarita you've fixed us!"

"Thank you, God."

"God, as long you're here, what's a word that begins with "a" that  means "non-believers"?

"I see  you enjoy crossword puzzles, MaryAnne, one of my favorite  entertainments also!  How about 'agnostics' or 'atheists'?"

"Thanks, God! 'Atheists' has exactly the right number of letters!"

Did anyone like hearing John Lennon's "Imagine"?

I know it's extreme but hey, 5% of the population has 95% of the wealth. It gets worse every year. During the "Great Recession" the rich got richer while we all lost. We have religious problems all over the globe--if there is a god then he is not really interested in our plight--I can't believe in god. If like my mom says, I might be wrong and what then? Well, if I ever come before a so called creator--I'll just ask forgiveness. Doesn't the Christian god forgive all sins if you ask? Even Stalin and Hitler could be forgiven...

I'm an atheist. If I'm right I'll never know, if the believers are wrong they'll never know. Kind of a kick-in-the-ass but there we are.

When Lennon died I was very upset and even went to a silent vigil for him, on the Chicago lakefront, along with my first wife and thousands of others. It felt like the final nail in the coffin of the Sixties.

I was 33 then...now I'm about to turn 68...and John Lennon seems less important and more ridiculous with every passing year.

But maybe that's just me.

I didn't like that song all that much when it was new...and I care for it even less now.

Yeah, I'm still a pinko who leans to the left, but I'm certainly not a hippie anymore.

And I don't think about God very much...or heaven, or hell. You're born, your inner light shines for a while, then the light goes out for good and you're a corpse that has to be disposed of in some way...because, unlike that light bulb, you'll begin to rot and stink and cause a lot of other problems for the living.

But aside from the corpse, you're just like that dead bulb that gets thrown into the landfill. There's no light bulb heaven or light bulb hell, either.

I find that a comforting thought.
