McCain's long good-bye...

Wazzup with funerals lasting for hours and hours, especially those of famous people? Singers, eulogies by one and all, choir performances, Bible quotes...it's like a big TV show. The funeral for Aretha lasted for about seven hours, fer chrissake...like a rock and soul revue, and lots of come-to-Jesus gospel performances, too. It went on so long that they cut off the part where Stevie Wonder sang, which is what I was waiting for. I mostly never heard of any of the younger singers, who didn't impress me. Too loud and too histrionic. Showing off for the cameras.

Gotta say that McCain's funeral was impressive, and that Obama and Bush said some good things. But his daughter? Not so much. It's not like she didn't know her father was going to die...he didn't exactly kiss her good-bye one night and then get hit by a bus.

And she's no emotional teen...she's 34 years old, fer chrissakes and a TV personality. Yet, she sobbed her way through the whole week, even while her mother and six siblings kept it together. They have drugs for that very purpose. They are known as tranquilizers for a reason.

My impression of her is that she's an overwrought drama queen who wanted the limelight...and I'm happy that her fifteen minutes are finally up.

A whole week of mourning in America. That's a long time to say good-bye. Glad they didn't let Resident Rump ruin it and make a mockery of it and make it all about HIM. Gotta wonder if he has a funeral plan on file? If he's not around to pontificate and be in the spotlight, except in a casket, what good would it do him? And who would want to attend? Dig a hole and dump him in, piss on it and walk away. Then put up a marker so folks know where to aim.

One day my father went down to his friend's scrape yard, tanked up on sweet tea and John Player cigarettes and then had a heart attack while trying to scrape a motor.

He wasn't a fit man and I knew that he would not be around much longer, but I loved him and wept every day for a year after his death

Maybe Jon McCain's daughter felt the same way about her father.

I've said this before...I merely had a father, whereas you had a dad. Which is something I never really had.
And no, there was no place to wash my hands when I was done, but no need to talk about that.

As you all here know, I had a Daddy for the first 5 and 1/3 years of my life. I wasn't old enough to call him "Dad," but in the years that ensued, Mama often referred to him as "your father," and I was all right with that.

I think John McMaverick McCain was worthy of quite a ceremonial funeral, but at the same time, I suspect it's the last thing he'd have wanted.

Meh, a week's worth of mourning for someone who served his country for decades? I don't consider that overdone.

He hand-picked the speakers who gave the eulogies and he drafted the funeral plans and gave explicit instructions to those who orchestrated the five-day ceremonies. Those folks saw that they were carried out.

He could have opted for a simple funeral, as even some presidents have chosen...Truman and Nixon did not have elaborate state funerals.

McCain got what he asked for...it was his choice, and his wishes were honored. Including banning the Trumpster Fire from the building.

I suspect McCain would have preferred a quiet service but decided to allow the pomp as a rallying call to the nation and a last fuck you to Trump
