Stupid bitches with their phones and their f'king selfie sticks...taking pictures of themselves and their food instead of living in the moment and enjoying where they are. Seems to be a disease that is very contagious among young Asian females.

I doubt that obsession's exclusive to female Asians--more likely to both genders of any nationality or race who've grown up in the Cellphone Generation. blankstare

Christ, you are a miserable bastard. It isn't the kids' fault that they are young and carefree and because of the advances of medical science, can look forward to long lives full of happiness while you descend into the depths of the Ohioan winter and spend Christmas having a heart attack in a Cleveland snow drift.

I like the shot, for which many thanks Nytram. I am not too keen on fish unless they are on a plate, but the Maldives is dirt poor and I admire anyone who gets out and does what they can with what they have.

Okay, fine. Whatever. Truth be told, I probably had more fun than they are having. The Sixties and Seventies was a great time to be a "kid"...that is, teens and twenties and early thirties. Everything was better, especially the cars and the music. More drug use, and more available sex, because things were so much looser. None of the addictions to phones and other devices, and no "sharing" of everything and anything. Privacy still existed. But people still talked to each other, as well. The "Cult of the Self" did not yet exist. They're called "selfies' for a reason, pal. It's all about me-me-ME---see my pix? Ain't I spay-shul?

Happiness? Many of them are still living with their parents...no more cheap gas in beater cars, like the two VW Bugs I owned. Rents were low and housing was plentiful...no thousand-dollar-a-month wooden boxes in wooden apartment buildings designed to look like stone. If you had the scratch, even buying a house wasn't all that hard to do. No bribing the owner and competing with a dozen other folks to pay a quarter-million for a shack on a concrete slab. Be a "kid" now? When they have to struggle for everything, including decent jobs with decent wages and benefits? No thanks. I'm glad I'm not young anymore. And my house is no palace, but it's the best I've ever lived in, and it's paid-for.

Hell, it's all moot, anyway. Time doesn't crawl...it marches on...and then it runs. Forty years will pass in the blink of an eye and it will be 2060 before they know it and they will be the old farts and bitching about how the early years of the century were so much better. The world those future geezers will live in will be a much harsher and meaner place, as things get tougher and more crowded. Billions of those yet unborn competing for food and water and space,  and the Darwinian struggle for survival gets even more brutal. Hopefully, it won't all be ashes and cinders by mid-century. I'll be dead and long-forgotten...and my race will have been run.

Ohioan winters go by faster and faster, too, and all the Christmases fly by like houses outside a train window. But I'm sitting next to Lucinda as the Great Ticket Taker comes down the aisle to punch our tickets to ride...all the way to Hell...and being next to her makes all the difference.

Got any other snarks in your poke, mate? I've got all the time in the world that's left to me. How about you?

Charlie
