Got online this morning and was whapped with the new Internet Explorer 10 browser.  It doesn't seem to have a Tool Bar up top, or anywhere else.   Help, please!

Wow - you are so far ahead of me.  I only have IE 8.  Did you download that yourself ?  Maybe you'd better just google and see what Help sites come up.  I did that with my new Word 2010 and got lots of really useful info.

Hell, no, I didn't download it!  I was perfectly happy with whatever version I had, probably IE-7.  Damned IE-10 just showed up this morning, and it's even affected the way I can view my albums at Photobucket.

Just a little while ago, I think I figured out how to C&P photos from PB to message boards--have to right click on the photo, choose Copy, then right click blank space where I want to put it; Paste shows up as a choice, and it seems to work.

I'm still pizzed, though.

Oh No, Ms. Kitty. You have failed to opt out of the dreaded auto-update.cry

Internet Explorer 10

Fast and fluid

Built to take advantage of the full power of Windows 8 and Windows RT, Internet Explorer 10 starts and loads sites almost instantly. It brings a fluid responsiveness to the web that feels totally new. Everything you want to do on the web is a swipe, tap, or click away.

Perfect for touch

Truly full-screen browsing: Navigation controls appear only when you need them and quietly get out of the way when you dont. Internet Explorer 10 lets you flip ahead or back through your websites with the flick of a finger. Tiles and tabs for frequently visited sites are oversized for easy tapping.

Easy

Smooth, intuitive controls work just as you'd expect. One Box is both address and search bar for speedier navigation. Pin your favorite sites to your Start screen and get to them as quickly as you access your apps.

Safer and more private

Help keep your PC and your information safer on the web with the industry-leading SmartScreen technology that helps protect against socially-engineered malware. Privacy tools like Do Not Track are built-in and can be turned on in one click.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/internet-explorer

How to uninstall IE10 :

Start button > in the search box, type programs and features > Enter > left side, click View Installed Updates > scroll down to find Windows Internet Explorer 10 > right click > click Uninstall.

Restart computer.

After you are back with IE9, some unfinished business.....................

Set Windows Update to Manual :

IE10 will come up in Windows Update again, and it will be installed if Windows Update is set at Automatic.

To set Windows Update at Manual will give you option to install or not to install.

Start > in the search box, type windows update > press Enter > left side, click Change Settings > under Important Updates, click the pointer and change it to " Download updates but let me choose whether to install Them " > click OK when done.

Hah, I don't recall being offered the option.  Right now I want to bite someone on the ankle.

Thanks, Nytram, I'll try understanding those instructions maybe Thursday evening (WonderWoman's making a brief overnight visit Wednesday).

"Navigation controls appear only when you need them and quietly get out of the way when you dont."  Bullshit--I need 'em, and they're not appearing.  Anyway, I know this thread will be moved to the Help board, which will be a good thing because I know I'll have to refer to it frequently, but if y'all will leave it on General until a few more folks weigh in, I'll thankee.

On mine, with IE-8, each time an update is offered, I have the option to use the "express" or I can choose what I want.  I steered clear of "express" and IE-8 for a long time by unchecking IE-8 among what was going to be updated before I allowed the update.

Here are two good alternatives:

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/ (i use this one)

https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/

(plus, if you install the free "adblock plus" on either of those, you'll never see another advertisement (banner/popup) online again)

 Just so.

Of the two I prefer Google Chrome, but then again I haven't used Firefox for a while.

The thing is guys, all these superdopper features need extra programs which means more things to go wrong.

Just download Mozilla Firefox Miss Kitty. I stopped using IE years ago because it was just too unpredictable and weird. Firefox has given me no problems at all.

Was there some kind of general upgrade from IE-9 to IE-10 yesterday? Without everyone's knowledge or consent? My compooter was all wonky yesterday and I had to log in here (I never log out) and also to other sites as well, such as IMDb, Pandora, and AccuWeather. And now I have new features I never saw before, like automatic spell check on EVERYTHING. What the flood?

I know I should switch to Google Chrome, but it seems like such a hassle. IE-8 ran like a German clock when I got this compooter three years ago, then it went to hell. So I upgraded to IE-9 this past winter...more bells and whistles...and more problems almost immediately. And if I have IE-10 now, God help us. How do I find out what system I have? I've forgotten where to look!

My three year subscription to McAfee is expiring. What's a good anti-virus software that is either free or cheap? McAfee sucks, and I don't want to pay sixty bucks for a POS virus protection, either. I had AVG at one time, but that was a big mess...probably was because I had an old system. Any suggestions?

Charlie

 Spybot.

It is free and for nothing and doesn't gobble up mega bytes of memory.

Most viruses are harmless anyway.

If your running Windows I suggest Microsoft Security Essentials.  It's free from Microsoft's website, safe and very reliable.

Kitty, PhotoBucket changed itself, it's not IE10's fault. I hate the new PhotoBucket, you can no longer display all photos on one page. It sucks.

I know--I pitched a fit about that a couple months ago.  Finally got used to the new PB (still prefer the old one, but that's gone like a fart in the wind), but now IE-10 has changed the way I can view photos.  Also, Google Images used to show page numbers, so if you find a photo you might have in mind but want to keep scrolling through the lot of them, you could remember the page number and scroll back up quickly-quickly.  No page numbers with IE-10!  I don't understand how a browser can change the way sites appear to us.

Charlie and I are both on ATT, maybe only ATT customers got the update to IE-10?  Yes, now I have spell-check on hotmail, which of course now calls itself outlook.

I have google's Chrome browser, think it installed itself a couple years ago during a Java update (I neglected to un-check the box to prevent it).  Checked it out last night, it doesn't have any C&P buttons either (at least not that I could find).  So when you switch to a different browser, how do you transfer all your Favorites to it?  I have the URLs for a few sites that are really important to me stashed in hotmail, but there are still quite a few that I don't visit that often but often enough to keep them on the Favorites list.

Gah, this is all such a bother!

It's insane trying to get both the photo and the catalog number from windows Photo Gallery so you can c&p or link them.

p.s. Kitty, is you av kitty driving an old Daimler-Benz?
