Do not get them neutered/spayed at the same time.  All hell has broke loose here! They have only been home an hour and I'm ready to take those damn cones off.  If I have both kittens in the same room, Hazel starts to beat up on Maggie, something she never does except in play, and Maggie is fighting back.  So now I have them in their own room separated by a door.  Maggie just sits there by the door listening to Hazel crashing against the door and screaming.

Took the cones off and finally, both are sleeping. Crossing my fingers they leave their incisions alone.

Poor kids!  The cones probably upset them more than any post-op discomfort.  None of our cats ever had cones after any procedures.  So far, anyway.  Get well soon, Maggie and Hazel! aww

Hello Dee. So good to see you back.biggrin I know I am a few days short in posting. Sigh! Just not feeling up to it much. I have an awful  flu  bug. When I took both Watson and Sherlock my famous duo for spaying. Neither of them needed cones either. I can imagine  how mad they must have felt both wearing them. Even when my females spayed they did not require a cone.

You have my empathy for all you have been through today. I know in your shoes I would feel tuckered right out.

Take care and keep the pictures of Hazel and Maggie coming for sure. awwawwaww

This is one reason why we adopted a bonded pair of older felines after twenty-year-old Mazel died of old age..
No procedures, and they didn't get crazy. Just the opposite. And they didn't drive us crazy, either.

I don't think we could handle kittens anymore. More importantly, they would probably outlive both of us.
And then what would become of two orphaned older cats? That was our main reason for not adopting kittens.

Sorry you are not feeling well Uni, hope it passes quickly!

Yesterday I was totally exhausted, dealing with July 4th fiasco and then the spaying fiasco.  I had gone out in the morning yesterday with my sister while the kitties were still at the vet.  While browsing a nursery, I felt unstable on my feet and had to tell her I needed hydrating and a chair, so we headed to the closest diner.  Turns out I needed food too!  I felt better afterwards, but I still also desperately needed sleep.  Didn't get it until hours later when I finally got the kitties settled.  I feel so much better today after tons of sleep.

If I had been any older, I would have gone for older cats too, but at 62 I thought I was up to it and hopefully still young enough to outlive them.  I don't want to worry what happens to my kitties after I'm gone.  So these will be my last kittens.  It's a challenge at times, but also a great deal of fun, and so far it has been worth some of the frustrations.

Our last kitten was Micky Mikhail Katz, who we found under our steps in 2002...he was our "steppe-child" for 14 years.

When we adopted Leo and Onyx, three years ago, we were already 68. So...no more kittens for us.

My late neighbor gave up on adopting cats after her last one died. Then her huskie died because of the heat, and she said no more animals. But she was so lonely without any that she adopted an old dog, who ended up getting even more feeble and who peed all over her house. Which she was too decrepit to clean up.

Luckily, he died before she went into the nursing home. I remember the winter day someone from the vet's came to pick up the body.

No more animals after that, as she was past 80 by then.

I can't imagine being without any kitties in another decade, or less. But that's what will probably happen. Maybe no car keys, either.
Both of us have had kitties for almost forty years, and before that, I had a few while in college, and afterward.

A life without kitties? Impussible!

Charlie

They have doubled in size since coming to live with me.  They look huge in the photo, but they are still under five pounds.
