And yet the article keeps referring to the homely broad, who, by her appearance I must presume has never entertained the notion of fighting aging, as a "romance" novelist.  How much farther from romance can you get if you kill your spouse?

I hope Nancy Crampton Brophy didn't produce any children to further pollute the gene pool, but so far I've not been able to find out about that.

...shows up and speaks at vigil for her murdered husband after killing him...but before being charged...

This woman has the balls of a brass monkey!

Murders involving themselves in investigations/vigils is actually pretty common.

Well, of course!

If they were jumping up and down in celebration instead of looking doleful and sorrowful, they'd surely have attracted law enforcement agencies' attentions.

Nancy Crampton Brophy should have gone for divorce irregardless  of vows stating no divorce during marriage. Much easier to break the promise than to commit murder and then being in jail if convicted.

This reminds me of the novel with the actor who had a Cockatiel bird almost always on his shoulder  in his TV series. I recall the novel was written by Truman Capote? I think? I read it years ago.

I have to wonder what her husband was like to live with behind closed doors. The press do not mention much about him.

The series was Baretta, the actor was Robert Blake, the cockatoo was Fred. The movie was In Cold Blood, and yes, it based on the Truman Capote book of the same name.

smile

... and I agree, divorce is a better choice than murder.

Yes that is it.smile I see so the cockatoo's name was called Fred.  Like many others of the time I thought  Baretta was so  cool.I did enjoy the book and thought it was well written at the time, one of the best I had read in a while.

I felt so badly when Robert Blake murdered his wife and of all things according to the plot of the book.

Blake was charged in Bonnie Lee Bakley's murder but found not guilty. His defense was that she had been shot by someone else when he returned to the restaurant they had just left to retrieve a gun he had mistakenly left behind.

Seven months later he was found liable in a wrongful death lawsuit brought against him by Bakely's children.

Officially Bakley's murder remains unsolved.
